Surrogacy is Love

Surrogacy has been on my mind as far back as I can remember.
It broke my heart knowing not everyone would be able to experience parenthood. I couldn’t imagine my life without my son. I loved being pregnant, so for me it was a win win.

After remarrying to my second husband and gaining two bonus boys and deciding that's all we wanted. Surrogacy weighed heavy on my heart again and I just couldn’t shake the feeling that it was my calling, so I did it.

Our Surro Story

In August 2023, my husband and I traveled out to Portland, OR to transfer an "embaby" to carry for another couple. After two long weeks, we got those two pink lines (on several tests as I just HAD to be sure) and after confirming blood tests, the parents were ecstatic. A few short weeks later, we all got to hear that little but strong heartbeat. Months went by... morning sickness, body changes, finding out it was a GIRL, watching her grow on ultrasounds ...

On December 26th, we hit the halfway mark and went into the anatomy scan with the parents on video call watching as the tech showed us each leg, arm, counting fingers and toes. Everything looked amazing!

Then on December 28th, something wasn't right... I was not sure but turns out I was having contractions at only 20.6 weeks. I rushed myself to the hospital with my husband right behind me coming from a job. I barely made it into L&D before my water broke and I was having to push saying "She's too little, she's not ready..." crying and holding the wonderful L&D nurses hands as they calmed me with peaceful words and loving touch.

On December 28th, I gave birth to a tiny, barely 1 lb. baby girl who was only with us for an hour. Seeing her sweet face, all ten fingers & toes; it was heartbreaking to see such perfection that wouldn't be staying with us. Unfortunately, I was also losing too much blood and needed to go for surgery so I was unable to process a lot of what happened until much later.

After getting home and having some recovery time, I was able to speak with the wonderful intended parents, my friends... we are grieving together but moving forward; whatever that may look like. We pray it means being able to try again to give them the gift I so desperately want to give them and they so very well deserve to have.

Stay tuned...

Even though it is not your baby to keep, does not mean you shouldn't document the beauty that is pregnancy for yourself, for them, for the baby.
