This past weekend was a little different for me. As a photographer, I get the privilege of capturing love, joy, and life in so many forms—but this time, it hit closer to home. My little brother is having a baby.

It still feels surreal to write that.

Watching your sibling grow up is one thing. Watching them get married is another. But seeing him become a soon-to-be dad? That’s next-level emotional. And getting to photograph that moment, just weeks before his world changes forever, was something I’ll never forget.

We met up at John H. Downs Memorial Park in Pasadena, Maryland—this time of year, the park is a dream. The trees are just beginning to burst into green, wildflowers are waking up to spring, and the Chesapeake Bay sparkles in the background like a quiet, timeless witness. Nature was showing off just enough to keep things magical, but not too much to steal the show.

His wife—my sister-in-law—was glowing (yes, it’s cliché, but it’s also true). We wandered through the winding trails, under the canopy of trees, and found cozy little spots near the water’s edge. I tried to stay behind the lens, to focus on angles and light—but there were so many moments I found myself just pausing and soaking it all in. The way he looked at her. The way she held her bump like it was already the whole world. The quiet in-between moments that only a big sibling gets to notice.

I’ve done a lot of maternity sessions over the years, but this one... this one was layered. It was art, it was memory, it was legacy. It was family.

I can’t wait to meet this baby and tell them that I was there before they even took their first breath—watching their parents fall in love with them before they even arrived.

And yes, I’m definitely crying while writing this.

Here’s to the next adventure, little bro. You're going to be an amazing dad.
